Dr. Kennedy Gyau Boahen is a Lecturer in Clinical Microbiology at the Department of Clinical Microbiology, School of Medicine and Dentistry, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. He holds a BSc in Biological Science (2009), an MPhil in Clinical Microbiology (2015), and a PhD in Clinical Microbiology (2018)—all obtained from KNUST, with his doctoral studies supported by the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine, Germany.
At the KNUST-IVI Collaborative Centre, Dr. Boahen contributes to research design and implementation, clinical trials, data analysis, and scientific writing, while managing day-to-day laboratory operations. His work spans infectious disease epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, and emerging bacterial pathogens, with a focus on One Health approaches to disease prevention and control.
Dr. Boahen’s research seeks to clarify the transmission pathways of bacterial pathogens, develop guidelines for their control, and unravel the molecular mechanisms underlying antimicrobial resistance. His current studies include investigations into emerging bacteria such as Arcobacter and Aeromonas, as well as Salmonella and other foodborne pathogens.
He has participated in multiple clinical and multinational research projects and has co-authored over 25 peer-reviewed publications. His scientific contributions align with a strong commitment to tackling public health threats through integrated, multidisciplinary research.
