Surveillance for Typhoid Impact Assessment in Africa (STIA)

A follow-up to the SETA and SETA Plus studies, running from 2024 to 2025 to assess the impact of typhoid conjugate vaccine (TCV) introduction. It conducts hospital and community-based surveillance to monitor typhoid incidence, complications like intestinal perforation, antimicrobial resistance, chronic carriage, and economic impact across several African countries. Led by IVI and partners, the project uses standardized methods to generate high-quality data to guide national immunization policies. STIA aims to strengthen surveillance systems and support evidence-based decisions for TCV rollout in endemic regions.
